Central Library, a Brooklyn icon since opening on February 1, 1941, captivates with its Art Deco limestone facade resembling an open book, grand lobby, and bronze sculptures of literary figures. Designated a NYC Landmark in 1997 and on the National Register in 2002, it houses vast collections in over 30 languages, the innovative Shelby White & Leon Levy Information Commons, Dr. S. Stevan Dweck Cultural Center for premier events, and Business & Career Center. Fully accessible and undergoing renovations (Phase 1: 2021; Phase 2: 2024), it welcomed nearly 6 million visits in FY24, blending history, culture, and modern resources.
